homemade soy milk tastes different than store-bought.
When I first tried it homemade, I truly could not believe the difference. Y’all they are putting A LOT of GUNK in those soy milks on store shelves. If you love store bought Soy milk, chances are you are not going to like REAL homemade soy milk. (You’ll most likely have to get used to the taste).
Real homemade soy milk has a pretty strong flavor and it tastes pretty earthy. I like it. I prefer homemade almond milk but I like to incorporate soy into my diet because of all the health benefits. Folks of Asian descent have been using soy for thousands of years and they are some of the MOST healthy people on the planet.
If you’ve been rocking with me for a while now—you know I had a Bone Marrow Transplant in 2015 and the chemotherapy caused some challenges with regard to my hormones—I have been on HRT (hormone replacement therapy since 2017) With that hormonal challenge I am always looking to give my body those extra nutrients to make up for that issue.
health benefits of soy
Soy has quite a few benefits, to name a few:
- rich in protein: Soy is an excellent source of high quality protein, containing amino acids. This makes it a valuable protein source for vegetarians, vegans, and all y’all looking to reduce meat consumption.
- heart health: Can help lower cholesterol and reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol which reduces risk of cardiovascular disease
- bone health: Soy contains calcium which can help with bone density and osteoporosis (especially for women who are postmenopausal)
- menopausal symptom relief: the isoflavones can mimic estrogen in the body, which can help alleviate menopausal symptoms
- cancer prevention: been shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers.
