the best homemade almond milk

Sister Frennn - Homemade Almond Milk

Ok sis, so here’s the thing. If you are gonna be hanging out with me you have to make your own homemade almond milk.

Sis, it tastes SOOO much better than store bought and I promise you, after you begin making your own you will never turn back. I began making my own Almond Milk back in 2018 and it is THE STAPLE in my house. Half the time I am living off of shakes and smoothies so this is the base of pretty much ALL my drinks.

It is so versatile girl, you can use it for all your vegan cooking and perhaps before you went to bed last night you didn’t get enough calories in—heat up some homemade almond milk, throw in some cinnamon sticks, a couple of cardamom pods, dates, and then blend in the Vitamix before bed—that’s a whole other recipe that you can find here. Annnddd you can you use it for homemade face masks—click here to see my favorite one.

But seriously girlie, almond milk and so many other things were not meant to be sitting on shelves for months. All of those preservatives that you are consuming add up. Don’t you want to have youthful looking skin—FRESH looking skin? Yes! I know you do.  Plus, have you ever noticed how THICK the milks are at the grocery store—they shouldn’t be that way.

There are some simple items in your kitchen that YOU CAN TAKE BACK!!! Ditch those preservatives!!! And get some TRUE NUTRITIONAL VALUE.

I know doing everything from scratch may seem a little daunting, but I promise you, it isn’t. It just becomes part of the routine. Every Saturday night, soak your almonds, and then prepare to peel them and have your milk for the week. Plus if you make your own milk you can also have access to you own Almond Meal/Flour for baking. So basically you are essentially getting a two for one! Who doesn’t love a two for one?!!!!

should you eat the skin on almonds?

Alright there are alot of different opinions when it comes to the skin of almonds. I’ve read from different sources that the skin is not good for you & hard for your stomach to digest and other sources have said the skin contains fiber.

As for me, I decided about a year ago that I would be peeling my almonds. For me, it makes the milk look cleaner & lighter, its immediately ready for desserts that need to look pretty, and it makes my almond flour/meal look nice. Perfectly white 🙂

I haven’t noticed a big difference in digestion for me. So … you do your research and decide what’s best for you.

why i make raw almond milk

For the Almond Milk, you can always add dates or honey or a hint of vanilla extract for great flavor! BUTTTT when I am making my half gallon of Almond Milk, I keep it COMPLETELY raw!

The reason I do this is because I am always using the Almond Milk for different recipes. If I’m making a cake— I don’t want the added vanilla extract from the almond milk plus the additional measured amount. Or if I am making a fruit smoothie, I’d rather just add in fresh dates at the time that I am making the smoothie. You get the picture!? I’m sure you do!

Alrighty, lastly when I was a single gal, I just used 1 cup of almonds which would give me  32 oz of milk for the week. Now I just do two cups of almonds for 64oz of milk.  It’s def worth the extra money to invest in the 32 oz container from Vitamix.

Every. Single. Day. I am blending smoothies and soups and I don’t want 64 oz of it. 32 oz gives me and my hubby each the perfect amount of smoothie  or whatever I am making.

Plus if you live alone, and you are making a matcha or something—you don’t wanna put 1/2 tablespoon of something into that big @$$ 64 oz container.

The 64 oz is just two big for everyday use imo (in my opinion)
