sisterfrennnnn—you want your face hydrated?
Rose water. Remember when that hit? I feel like it’s a staple item that every woman buys nowadays. Whether you’re using it as facial spray or putting a dab of it in some of your recipes! You need it, you love it!
Remember when a certain man… who shall remain nameless…came out with Rose Water that hit the shelves at all your favorite cosmetic stores like Sephora & Ulta and every woman everywhere was using it ….and then he was hit with a lawsuit because it came to light that he had put steroids and other really bad ingredients in the product?
girl, so many of these things that are good for us are NOT just things that we should buy.
They take things like Bone Broth, Rose Water, Garlic Paste, and so much more and put a crap ton of chemicals in it and tell you that you can have access to the health benefits by just spending $20—and I am here to tell you …THAT IS NOT SO. Particularly, Bone Broth! Gosh that one really makes me mad. No mija, you’re not about to get Life changing, BONE changing, Skin changing benefits from that little packet of “Bone Broth” on aisle 21 at Krogers. It’s not about to happen. Ooooo it makes me so mad. Here’s a blog post about making homemade Bone Broth.
Making homemade rose water is simple. I want your face to feel hydrated and refreshed…so let’s get to it!
ingredients for homemade rose water:
- Organic Roses (buy them from the Farmers Market) (If you can’t —that’s ok too— I’ve totally bought regular degular roses from Krogers and my rose water turned out just fine) (yup, I even cooked with it)
- DISTILLED WATER (my love, if you don’t use DISTILLED WATER, your rose water will NOT be the color of your roses) (the grocery store will have DISTILLED WATER in the area where all the gallons are—I’ve never seen in it in water bottle form)
- Baking Soda
how to make rose water:
- Cut the roses off the stems. You don’t have to pluck the petals one by one. If you squeeze firmly, they’ll just fall off.
- Wash the rose petals in a baking soda bath —you can wash them in regular water (no problem)
- Rinse off all the roses to get all that baking soda off.
- Dry the roses with a paper towel.
- Put the roses in your pot, cover them with DISTILLED WATER, place the lid on and bowl for about 30 minutes.
- Let it cool and then drain the petals off your gorgeous rose colored water. Then put it in your spray bottle.
DON’T THROW AWAY THE WET PETALS. You need those for cooking & teas. Click here to see how to dry them out.
YOU MUST REFRIGERATE. It is homemade sis, all naturalllll, ORGANIC, so this isn’t something you can carry around in your purse—it will get mold~ I know from experience LOL.
So just spray your face in the morning and at night before bed.
I wanna see what color Rose water you make! I’ve only ever made traditional red, so tag me @sisterfrennn in yours —if you branch out and do pink, or white or something!
self care is important—make time to make little things like this for yourself.
